Faith on Display
Welcome to The Hem! We are a husband and wife team who love Jesus and want to share that love with others. As followers of Christ who have been entirely changed by faith, we believe we are called to advance God’s Kingdom from our corner of the world. “As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” (Acts 4:20, NIV)
The Hem is inspired by the story found in Mark 5:24-34 (NIV) of the woman who suffered from a bleeding disorder.
A large crowd followed and pressed around Him. And a woman who was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind Him in the crowd and touched His cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from Him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched My clothes?” “You see the people crowding against You,” His disciples answered, “and yet You can ask, ‘Who touched me?’” But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at His feet and, trembling with fear, told Him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”
Back in that time, a woman in her position would have been considered ceremonially unclean. She would have been an outcast—overlooked at best, looked down on at worst. She probably felt rejected, abandoned, and completely alone. When she heard of a rabbi going through town performing miracles, she knew she had to see Him. In the middle of her pain and hurt, she chose to believe that Jesus was exactly who He said He was. She believed that just the hem of His garment could do more than anything else in the world. In a beautiful expression of faith, she pushed through the crowd of people who had deemed her unworthy, stretched out her arm, and touched the edge of the Great Healer’s cloak. In an instant, she was miraculously cured. When Jesus spoke to her, He called her “daughter.” Not only did He heal the woman of her physical ailment, He restored her dignity.
How many of us have felt abandoned or rejected by people around us? Maybe you’ve tried everything in your power to fix a problem in your life. There’s good news—there is One who will never abandon us. There is One who fights on our behalf and gives us His power and strength. The tiniest bit of Jesus is more than enough. We want to share our own tiny bit of Christ with you through our shop. Every time you wear one of our tops, you get to be the one who shares a little bit of Jesus with others, too.
